REPORT SUMMARY ABOUT “ZORRO REBORN”:

20th Century Fox recently decided to cast Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal to play the new Zorro in Zorro Reborn (different from the original). This role was brilliantly interpreted in the past by Antonio Banderas, a role he perfectly played both physically and intellectually. Zorro Reborn, a futuristic sci-fi Zorro vigilante, is a hero who answers the people's cry for justice. The film is approximately budgeted at $50 million dollars cash flowed by 20th Century Fox in Co-Production with Sobini films, but it will be 20th Century Fox that will make the final decisions, based on potential domestic and international sales.

Unless a big filmmaker and remarkable living legend like Steven Spielberg (who has a great instinct about talent even if unknown by the general public), is involved to set the roles, the Studios will always want to control everything. They are always afraid they will not make the budget. The previous director attached to this project was Rpin Suwannath, a very talented visual effects artist, recently replaced by the studio several months ago – a position still currently vacant. The former director introduced the Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal to the project. Several studio executives, producers and professionals in the business are concerned of his bad aging - he is not the same as he looked a few years ago.

Other actors were on the short list for this project, one of these is the promising and talented award winning actor ENZO ZELOCCHI.

We had the pleasure to meet him and briefly talk to one of his staff executives this past December 2011 at "The Contenders" Event. Several Hollywood key personalities were there such as:

Tom Rothman: Chairman/CEO Fox Filmed Entertainment ; Jeff Robinov: President of Warner Bross ; Harvey Weinstein: Co-Chairman The Weinstein Company ; Stacey Snider: Partner, Co-Chairman, and CEO DreamWorks Studios ; Jeffrey Katzenberg: CEO DreamWorks Animations ; Rob Friedman: Co-Chairman/CEO Summit Entertainment ; Rob Moore: Vice Chairman Paramount.

During that event, we noticed Enzo Zelocchi talk with Tom Rothman, producer Michael De Luca, director Luc Besson, director Gavin O'connor and briefly with Stacey Snider. This young actor totally captured our attention! We started to ask questions and research his background.

We discovered that Enzo Zelocchi has been honored with over 20 Awards in Film Festivals and in 2010 was considered to be nominated for an Academy Award in a Short Live Action "My Little Princess". This multi talented man was the lead Actor, Director, Writer and Producer of the project. He also obtained the rights from Sony Music for the Micheal Jackson's song, "Gone To Soon", other songs from Universal Music and much more. (please see the links below for more details).

He is apparently attached to several projects as lead and supporting actor, one with a major studio involved, in a already profitable franchise sequel movie with two big names as leads.

Today, casting a lead role in Hollywood is not necessarily based on the actor's talent, but on previous earnings of domestic and international movies' sales (or his/her popularity in a specific area). That's the rule, unless a big director or producer imposes his will, like Harvey Weinstein does (a man with with a great intuition and extended intelligence, who doesn't need to follow studios' rules) OR with the usage of a smart and effective marketing strategy based on the franchise, the story or by surrounding a new talent with some bankable actor as a safe move. But nothing is guaranteed, even with the presence of big bankable actors alone, because the big judge is always the public and it can be conditioned by an effective media/marketing advertising campaign. Studios and major production companies are directly responsible for that. There is a lot to be said about how the business really works, with all the games behind it.. enough to write a book and give entertainment marketing lectures.

In order to catch a broader audience, the actual shape and aspect of a actor/product should be one of the main factors to land a specific role (together with an innate talent).

A good thing about corporations is that they can always replace a product (if bad at any time), as a smart choice to protect the investment and credibility on their good name, and avoid to be punished by the public/audience final judgment.

This could be the best decision 20th Century Fox should be making on this specific project in terms of potential profit on domestic and international sales of the movie (it's hard sometimes, when the boss is surrounded by people unable to express their opinions).

We've heard several rumors about the other actors on the short list for Zorro, but the best and valid candidate for the role might be Enzo Zelocchi (several people in the industries share the same opinion, even inside FOX, but they'll only express it in private).

Nothing personal with the other actor, he is probably good for roles that fit him better, but not for this one and we're showing you why.
